Importing a pet into Nigeria: the NAQS guide

8 min read

Start 6 weeks out

Pets imported into Nigeria need a valid NAQS (Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service) import permit, a current rabies vaccination, and a government-endorsed health certificate from the origin country. The single most common reason a move slips is timing the rabies vaccination too late — it must be administered at least 21 days before travel and not more than a year before.

Documents you'll need

NAQS import permit (we file this), origin-country export permit, an APHIS or equivalent endorsed health certificate, rabies vaccination certificate, and the airline's live-animal acceptance form. For some breeds and origins, an additional rabies titre test (FAVN) is required — we'll tell you if yours is one of them.

Arrival at MMIA or NAIA

Pets arrive as manifested cargo. Our team meets the flight, presents the paperwork to NAQS officers, clears Nigeria Customs, collects your pet from the cargo shed, and drives to your address. Typical clearance is 2–4 hours after landing.

What it costs

Government fees vary by pet size and origin. Expect NAQS and customs charges in the ₦80,000–₦180,000 range, plus airline cargo (paid at origin), our handling fee, and last-mile delivery. We provide a full breakdown before you commit.

Need this done for your pet?

We handle the paperwork, the crate, the airline and the door-to-door — so you don't have to.
