Flying with bulldogs, pugs and Persians: read this first

4 min read

Why airlines restrict snub-nosed breeds

Brachycephalic (short-nosed) breeds — bulldogs, pugs, boxers, Persians, Himalayans — have anatomy that makes them prone to breathing difficulty under stress. At altitude, with elevated heart rate, the risk increases. Many airlines either refuse them entirely or only accept them in cooler months.

What we recommend

For interstate moves, we strongly prefer climate-controlled road transport over flight for brachycephalic breeds. It's slower but materially safer. Where flight is essential, we book early-morning or evening departures, use a crate one size larger than the standard formula, and require a vet's fit-to-fly certificate dated within 7 days of travel.

Need this done for your pet?

We handle the paperwork, the crate, the airline and the door-to-door — so you don't have to.
